Inspiration is the air creativity breaths. It is the source of life whispering a sense of connectedness. The medium of music always has a chance to capsulate this energy, depending on the artists integrity with the process. We all need new sources for inspiration, as well as inspiring others. Here are a few electronica albums from 2013 that radiates this wisdom.
BENJI VAUGHAN // EVEN TUNDRA
Benji’s “Even Tundra” is his first downbeat electronica album. Every track tells a different story with different textures but they all breath the same air. If you get inspired by grooving beats with pastel melodies and dreamy soundscapes, this is for sure a good shot. I love all the tracks, but for the sake of sharing here is the “pyramid”
BONOBO // THE NORTH BORDERS
This is the pop electronica side of the list. After “Black Sands”, Bonobo is out again with “The North Borders”. Some of the tracks in the album felt over composed but quite a few of them has an inspiring potential. Here is the track “Sapphire”,
BOARDS OF CANADA // TOMORROW’S HARVEST
This is a pleasing album for all ambient electronica lovers. After many years Boards of Canada managed to release “Tomorrow’s Harvest”. “Reach for the Dead” is a beautiful piece, could be called the hit track for the album but here shared “Come to Dust” inspired me the most.
HINKSTEP // OUT INNER SPACE
Second album of Hinkstep “Out Inner Space” is melodic electronica with eastern influences. Lots of organic instruments and recordings enriches the sound. Just like the first album, almost every track is refreshing and inspiring. You can listen to “Second Sight” as my selection,
ZINOVIA // THE GIFT OF AFFLICTION
When piano meets electronica, affliction starts to diffuse into your room. Zinovia has an inspiring sound with well technology driven content. This new composer definitely deserves more attention. The track “Entangled” is enchanting in many ways.
SHPONGLE // MUSEUM OF CONSCIOUSNESS
The fifth album of Shpongle, “Museum of Consciousness”, is the last stop of psychedelic legendary. This time the sound is more organic and cinematic without neglecting the roots. Simon Posford challanges himself and the crowd around him again as he did on the previous material. The track I shared here is “Epiphany of Mrs Kugla”,
ABAKUS // SILENT GEOMETRY
Abakus started his journey with the album “That Much Closer To The Sun” in 2004. His last album “Silent Geometry” with its groovy and melodic content inspired many people. For me it felt like he is back again. Here is the piece “Silent Geometry”,
There is more to come.
Enjoy the music.
